A lot of people think of texts in the bible as stories to be read silently, but the culture during Biblical times was largely oral. From songs to poems, the Bible is filled with beautiful creativity.
I started performing spoken word poetry several years ago as a different way to communicate a message. Though some folks respond to it as if it’s something radically new, it’s actually a practice based in the Psalms. The recordings on this page were done with a jazz duo that improvised throughout the session in response to the poetry. The result was a unique experience that I’m proud we captured.
