  1. Great post and food for thought Christian.

  2. “But I think we’d be doing both our faith and our patriotism a favor if we made clear in our own minds that not everyone who is a Christian, as grateful as we may be for the freedom we’re afforded here, agrees morally with how we got here.”

Very good point. Unfortunately, I think a lot of time when patriotism and Christianity comingle in importance to someone, it’s a matter of pride – national pride, and religious pride… a “my country is better than yours, my religion is better than yours” mentality, which I think the Bible would condemn. We have nothing to boast in but the cross.

We can certainly appreciate the freedoms our country affords and love where we live, but our first allegiance is to a King and a Kingdom.

  3. Wonderful piece. Thank you for writing on such a controversial subject. Each nation believes that God is on their side and will fight just for them. I have always wondered about that. As a Disciples of Christ I believe God isn’t on anyones side and violent conflicts between people or nations are not sanctioned by God. I believe the resurection was meant for all people, not just those who belive in God and Christ but ALL PEOPLE. Life giving love is all that is asked for, we as brothers and sisters in the name of God haven’t learned that yet, but maybe, just maybe the time is coming when we will.
